1987. HIV/AIDS: The ADS Epidemic – ‘Acquired Dread of Sex’
This video by John Greyson uses humour as well as sarcasm to put across a couple of important messages. One of these is that taking the media hype about AIDS too seriously can lead to ADS – Acquired Dread of Sex. The other – which follows naturally from the first – is about enjoying safe sex. Thus one of the young men discovers that condoms are “his very favorite thing to wear”.
Apparently this video played on a multi-monitor video wall in a shopping mall in a suburb of Toronto. This both surprising and encouraging since it’s obvious that its principal audience is young gay men. Clearly the mall managers weren’t suffering from ADS.
