The movie Divine Madness was my first encounter with Bette – ‘the Divine Miss M’ – Midler. I’d never heard of her before we went in to see the movie but after seeing Divine Madness I knew I’d be back for more.

It’s probably well known that Bette began her career in the Continental Bathhouse in New York, building up a faithful following among gay men. But as her star rose she never forgot us: she was a staunch supporter of LGBT rights long before it became fashionable amongst the rich and famous.
