1982. Music: Kid Creole and the Coconuts. Stool Pigeon
With their big band sound and colourful ‘zoot suits’, Kid Creole and the Coconuts produced some good dance music in the early 80s.
They did seem to have a bit of a pre-occupation with heterosexual themes in their songs (for example, Annie I’m Not Your Daddy and My Male Curiosity). And their promotional videos did tend to portray lead singer August Darnell as either irresistible womaniser or victim of women’s fickle ways.
But if you can get beyond that, the music’s not bad.
