1985. Music: Seventh Avenue. Love’s Gone Mad
Not sure if Seventh Avenue were officially one of the first gay ‘boy bands’ but it’s hard not to get that impression from the video.
They were certainly a big hit in gay clubs and this track was, apparently, a big seller (50,000 copies). However, because it was sold mainly through independent record stores the sales didn’t register on the UK’s music charts so their success wasn’t recognised quite as widely as it might have been.
Seventh Avenue was originally a studio group of session singers, put together by DJ and Producer, Ian Levine during the 70s disco period. Throughout the 80s, the studio group was fronted by different guys. The final three members of the group became the PWL/Stock Aitken & Waterman produced act, Big Fun.
Thanks for the info on all of these acts Neil. Colin
